My current ideas for my own documentary

For a part of our coursework we need to make a documentary on something of our own choice. At the moment I have had one big idea however it is a little bit on the controversial side. A part of my family, (my brothers children and their mum) live on a council estate. I was maybe thinking of doing something a little bit inspired by 'benefit street' and doing a day in the life of them and then a comparison to another person of a different classes day in the life to see the difference or to see if there is even a difference at all. But there could be issues with this. For example one of the issues could be, if they didn't feel comfortable with me doing this and interviewing them as they ay feel as though I'm just mocking them. I also don't want it to be seen as 'poverty porn' in a bad way. So before filming this I would have to talk to a lot of people and make sure they feel okay with me doing this. To have to do that makes things a lot more complicated. Therefore that is why I'm not completely set on this idea.

I was thinking of using one of Bill Nichols six modes of documentaries for my documentary no matter what my idea end up to ne. And if I wanted to choose out of one of those it would be the 'participatory mode' As this would include lots of things like interviewing people and including lots of other people in the filming other than me. I feel as though this is a really good way of filming a documentary as I feel like including other members of the public allows the audience and people watching at home to feel a lot more connected and take lots of different perspectives away from the documentary they are watching.
