Preliminary Task- Filming day

In class today we filmed our preliminary task. Mr Armstrong had set up the cameras lights and green screen and then he left it to us groups to decide the type of shots we wanted and where we wanted the lights.

My group went second, which was good in the way that we had the chance to see how things worked and know what we had to do. We filmed it so that it was an over the shoulder shot. Over the shoulder of the interviewer which left us with a mid shot on one of the cameras and a close up shot of the interviewee on the other camera. The final picture that I put up in this blog shows what the shot looked like through the camera. We had two lights facing the green screen and then two more lights shining directly on Katie’s face. We had to do this carefully to make sure that no shadows of anything in the room or Katie were reflected onto the green screen. When filming though we didn’t really have any problems with anything to do with lights or the cameras, it all went pretty smoothly. Apart from the fact that we had to be careful with the green screen because when Katie first sat down and got ready to film she was wearing green, as you can see in the photo, so before we started we had to make sure she changed.

I was the person doing the interviewing, which I found a really fun experience. I had the questions on my lap however throughout filming I tried to keep very strong eye contact with Katie so that she felt more comfortable and didn’t lose focus. I found asking the questions quite simple and I even tried to add a few in as I was going. Using the feedback that we received from Mr Armstrong.

Overall I think that today went really well and now we have the next week to try and edit the interview with a partner to our best ability.
