BBC 3

For our documentary we needed to chose a channel which we watched to put our documentary on. After talking to my teacher about the pitch and plan for my documentary we decided that the best fitted channel would perhaps be BBC 3.

I was thinking originally about the idea of putting it with BBC 1 as I know that there are a lot of good and educational documentaries on there, it is a very mainstream and go to channel. However the target audience for BBC 1 is middle aged and elderly people, as the topics that the documentaries are on are often quite heavy and serious. This type of feeling and genre didn't really fit with my idea.

I would like to aim my documentary for the younger generation as it is based on why the younger people should have more access to the arts, how the arts and dance has helped me as a child and it is just a rather light and comforting topic. BBC 3's target audience is 16 to 34 year olds and sometimes even younger than 16. The documentaries you can find on this channel have a big range of genres, including animation, comedy, current affairs, past affairs and drama. I thought that the big range of topics it covers is quite well fitted to the light hearted topic of my documentary. So I have chosen to stick with BBC 3.
